Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup apple cider
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Streusel Topping
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the apple cider and sour cream to the wet mixture and whisk until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir just until combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full.
  7. To make the streusel, combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl.
  8. Add the melted butter and mix until the mixture forms coarse, crumbly pieces.
  9. Sprinkle the streusel evenly over each muffin.
  10. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.
  12. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use fresh apple cider for the richest apple flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter, as this can make the muffins dense.
  • For an even stronger fall flavor, add a pinch of ground cloves or allspice.
  • The streusel should look crumbly rather than smooth before baking.
  • Store muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Warm individual muffins for a few seconds before serving for a fresh-baked texture.
