Chinese Beef and Onion Stir Fry

This Chinese beef and onion stir fry is savory, quick, and packed with bold flavor. Tender slices of beef cook with sweet caramelized onions in a rich soy-garlic sauce. It’s a classic takeout-style dish that comes together easily at home in minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb beef sirloin thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 green onion chopped, optional garnish

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and water to make the sauce.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add sliced beef and stir-fry for about 3–4 minutes until browned.
  4. Add sliced onions and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly softened.
  5. Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet.
  7. Stir everything together and cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Sprinkle black pepper and mix well.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra vegetables.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
