Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch cake pan.
In a bowl whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract and milk.
Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
Fold in chopped cherries and chocolate chips.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool before slicing and serving.
