- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine hash browns, 1 1/2 cups cheese, sour cream, soup, milk, melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until evenly combined.
- Spread mixture into prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle remaining cheese evenly on top.
- Add crushed cornflakes or breadcrumbs if using.
- Bake 35–40 minutes until hot and bubbly.
- Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

- Use freshly shredded cheese for smoother melting.
- Add cooked bacon or green onions for extra flavor.
- Cover loosely with foil if the top browns too quickly.
- Store leftovers refrigerated up to 3 days and reheat covered.
