Easy Hamburger Potato Casserole Recipe

This hamburger potato casserole is a hearty comfort-food classic that’s creamy, cheesy, and incredibly satisfying. Layers of seasoned ground beef and tender potatoes bake together in a rich sauce. It’s a simple family dinner that’s budget-friendly and filling.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter for greasing dish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a skillet cook ground beef and diced onion until browned.
  3. Drain excess grease and season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. In a bowl mix cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  6. Spread half of the beef mixture over the potatoes.
  7. Pour half of the soup mixture over the layer.
  8. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, beef, and soup mixture.
  9. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  11. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thinly so they cook evenly.
  • Add mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
