Homemade Caramel Apple Dump Cake

Caramel Apple Dump Cake is one of the easiest fall desserts you'll ever make. Layers of tender apple pie filling, rich caramel sauce, warm cinnamon, and buttery cake mix bake into a golden, crisp-topped dessert that's perfect for family dinners, potlucks, and holiday celebrations. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate autumn treat.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cans 21 ounces each apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce plus extra for serving
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 box 15.25 ounces yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the apple pie filling evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apple filling.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg evenly over the apples.
  5. Evenly distribute the dry cake mix over the apple mixture without stirring.
  6. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface of the cake mix.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the top if using.
  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes until the topping is golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
  9. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm with extra caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Use quality apple pie filling for the best flavor.
  • Cover any dry spots on the cake mix with a little extra melted butter before baking.
  • Add a pinch of apple pie spice for extra warmth.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
