- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add butter, egg, and vanilla extract and mix until crumbly dough forms.
- Press about two-thirds of the dough evenly into the bottom of the pan.
- Spread cherry pie filling evenly over the base.
- Sprinkle the remaining dough crumbs over the cherry layer.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until the top becomes golden brown.
- Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Use homemade cherry filling for a richer flavor.
- Chill the bars before slicing for cleaner edges.
- Add sliced almonds for extra crunch.
- Store bars in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
