Savory French Onion Potato Bake

This savory French onion potato bake is creamy, cheesy, and packed with rich onion flavor. Tender potato slices bake in a silky, seasoned sauce and turn golden on top. It’s the ultimate comfort-food side dish that pairs perfectly with roasted meats or cozy family dinners.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a bowl mix sour cream, milk, melted butter, French onion soup mix, pepper, and salt.
  4. Spread half of the sauce over the potatoes.
  5. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the layer.
  6. Add the remaining potatoes and top with the rest of the sauce.
  7. Sprinkle remaining cheese evenly on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold potatoes for a creamier texture.
  • Add crispy fried onions on top for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Let the bake rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
